Health & Safety Manager

Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to join our team in Tranent, East Lothian, Scotland.

Scope of Role

The HSE Manager is a direct report to the COO and a member of the Had Fab Ltd management team. The primary function of the role is to lead the development and adherence to all HSE policies while ensuring a continual improvement approach to all aspects of quality.

The HSE Manager will also support the COO and wider management team in defining and delivering the business strategy in terms of markets, solutions, operational capabilities and financial performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, improve and ensure adherence to the organisation’s Health, Safety and Environment policies as well as regulatory compliance to all current applicable standards
  • Defines and maintains measures on KPIs for all areas of responsibility and makes recommendations for improvement opportunities
  • Progressing Health & Safety towards ISO 45001 certification and inclusion in the IMS
  • Deliver timely communication of all changes to any applicable legislation. Advise on matters relating to Health and Safety at work, including the obligations and responsibilities of managers and employees; and provide comprehensive and practical advice to key stakeholders on best practice
  • Manage training program to ensure correct competencies to operate to all relevant standards and best practices. Includes induction program for new starts
  • Manage the recording, reporting and investigation of all incidents and accidents and conducts root cause analysis where required
  • Carry out regular site inspections to ensure that all processes and procedures are implemented consistently and are regularly reviewed to reflect the current requirements
  • Conduct risk assessments, including fire, COSHH and DSE
  • Chair monthly occupational health, safety, environmental and process safety review meetings
  • Management of all portals to which the company subscribes, RISQS, Achilles etc
  • Management of HSE documentation for both internal and external audit purposes; facilitate the audit process
  • Manage Had Fab’s
    • customer and regulatory body audits
    • internal audit program
    • business continuity plan
    • toolbox talk process
    • contractor approval process
    • RAMS & safe work packs for site and rail
    • Waste streams ensuring compliant and cost-effective operations
  • Travelling to external sites will be required to deal with any HSE issues
  • Undertake audits of key suppliers
  • Sentinel scheme co-ordinator

Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision

  • Direct report to the COO.
  • In case absence, authorised delegate will be the Manufacturing Manager
  • Liaise with other Managers
  • Provide the Management Team with performance and improvement reports at the monthly management reviews.

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • At least 10 years HSE experience
  • Possessing extensive knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Must be commercially aware.
  • Strong people-management skills.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Create an environment of trust and open communication.

Hours are 42.5 Hours per week –  Mon-Fri 8.00am to 17.00pm including half hour for lunch.
