Quantity Surveyor

Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Tranent, East Lothian, Scotland

Scope of Role

The role of the Quantity Surveyor is to manage project costs and develop contractual relationships.  The QS is a direct report to the Business Development Executive and a member of the Had Fab Ltd Commercial team.

The QS will make sure that the financial position of projects is accurately reported and controlled effectively as well as managing the contractual relationships between the various parties involved in any assigned project.

Responsible for preparing tender and contract documents, carrying out cost analysis, monitoring cost variations and writing reports, establishing the client requirements and undertaking feasibility studies, allocating work to sub-contractors and approving payments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Contract/Commercial Management
  • Cost Management
  • Prepare, validate and agreement of interim applications for payment and final accounts
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Complete savings report for internal records
  • Risk Management
  • Preparing and pricing project variations
  • Contract Change Control
  • Attending / leading Commercial / Contract meetings
  • Comply with Quality Management Systems, processes and procedures
  • Valuations & Variations – Presenting detailed information on the cost of particular elements of work on a periodic basis to enable payment for those works carried out to date.
  • Organising the project into its component work packages, then awarding these work packages to smaller, more specialised companies (subcontractors) and, in that process, finding out who offers the best deal.
  • Dealing with contractual and legal matters.
  • Managing costs to make sure that the initial budget isn’t exceeded.
  • Arranging payments and, at the end of a job, settling the final accounts.

Authorities, Interface, Reporting and Supervision

  • Line report to the Business Development Executive
  • Able to work flexibly in a collaborative team structure
  • Member of the Had Fab Commercial team.
  • Develops key account relationships

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Demonstrate leadership with applicable requirements of the HSE system
  • Ensure staff have required HSE training, information and awareness.
  • Maintain a high standard in HSE attitude and behaviour
  • Act on any observed unsafe actions and conditions

Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Methodical way of thinking.
  • Structural steelwork, manufacturing background experience would be beneficial
  • Good knowledge of construction, engineering, Power and Energy projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Good financial and numeracy management skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
  • The ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily.
  • Computer literate
  • Degree qualified
  • Working towards Chartership, or MRICS
  • Good pre and post contract experience
  • Good working knowledge of standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT, Logic, FDIC, ICE etc…)
  • 3+ years quantity surveying experience within a similar environment

Hours are:  Mon-Thurs 8.00am to 16.30pm and Friday 8.00am to 15.30pm.
